Statement by Federal Environment Minister Lemke on the adoption of the EU Environment Council's Nature Restoration Law

Dear Sir or Madam,

The EU Environment Council adopted the Nature Restoration Law in Luxembourg today.

Please find below a quote of Federal Environment Minister Steffi Lemke, who approved the Nature Restoration Law on behalf of Germany in the Council today.

Federal Environment Minister Steffi Lemke: "I very much welcome that EU Member States have adopted the Nature Restoration Law today. The compromise reached in the negotiations strikes a good balance between all interests. Today's decision is an example of the EU's ability to find compromise and a clear proof of our shared responsibility, responsibility that the European states have shown today by confirming the commitment we made to the European Parliament. And responsibility for nature in Europe and the preservation of creation.

An intact nature is the network that supports and sustains us all. The diversity of species, the services provided by ecosystems: We want to strengthen and protect them so that they can protect us. The Nature Restoration Regulation is a decisive step towards preserving intact nature in Europe, both on land and at sea.”

Kind regards from Luxemburg
